Ever since I was a little girl I've wanted to change the world.
I wanted to impact this world in a way that was so much bigger than myself. I wanted to do something great for God. During my earlier teen years I struggled a lot with feeling like I wasn't doing anything big in this world. I for sure wasn't out there ending world hunger, playing with kids in a third world country, or freeing girls from slavery. So what was I doing at all to change the world? Maybe you feel the same way? Maybe you feel like you're not making any difference in this world either because you're not standing on a stage in front of millions or your name isn't at the top of the New York Times Bestseller list. Maybe you feel like nothing you do matters and there's no way someone like you could possibly change the world. Well, do you want to know a secret? A secret that changed my life? You're already a world changer. You see, you weren't created to change the whole world yourself. But you are called to change your world. And in the midst of the craziness of life, in between the dishes and the youth group events, there is a hero that is inside of you aching to change your world. How could I possibly be changing my world? You may ask me. Well, let me explain. Every single one of us has a circle of influence in our lives. Let's start with your family. Your parents, of course. Maybe you have siblings. How are you impacting their lives? When we invest in the lives of our family members, we're making a difference in their lives. That little sister that always annoys you? Maybe someday she'll grow up to be the next famous singer or actress. Will you be able to say that you encouraged her and invested in her life? Do the dishes with a smile on your face, surprise your mom with cupcakes, play board games with your little siblings, write encouragement letters to your older siblings. Then your friends. Think of the special people in your life who God has given to you to be a friend to. What about your best friend? How are you impacting her life? Be there when she needs a hug or someone to talk to, surprise her with ice cream and pizza. What about the people you come in contact with every day? You may not think your interaction with them makes any difference at all. The people at church, at school, your co-workers. Is your interaction with them inspiring and uplifting? Maybe some of them you'll never see again...the lady at the grocery store, the man on the street corner, the crowds at the bus station. No matter how short the interaction, don't waste it. Give a smile, lend a helping hand, give up your ice cream money to the man on the street, pay for the stranger's groceries behind you. Do you see my point here? The smallest act of grace and kindness can change the world for someone. And that someone? Maybe they'll take the inspiration you gave to them and they'll go change the world for the person next to them. A single spark starts a wildfire. A single drop of rain starts a flood. A simple ripple creates a wave. So, dear princess, let me look deep into your eyes while I remind you. You are changing your world right now. And it is enough. The way you are impacting the lives of those around you? It is amazing. And your Prince? Well, He's smiling down on you whispering "Well done," to your soul. So keep on changing your world, girl. Your light shines so bright. ♥
