Have you ever stood in front of the mirror, staring at your reflection, and telling yourself all the ways you don't measure up?
You think your nose is too big, you have too many freckles, your smile is crooked, your ears look weird, you're not thin enough...and the list goes on. As girls we are attacked daily with messages that fill our minds with lies. Messages from the TV that say, "If you buy this or that it'll help you acheive true beauty." Messages from the magazine racks that say, "10 steps to being beautiful," or "You have to act this way to get people to notice your beauty." Messages from pop culture that say, "You have to dress this way or talk this way to be beautiful. Showing more skin makes you more beautiful." On and on it goes. These messages all think they are the answer to true beauty. They all think they know what it takes to be truly beautiful and desired. But the problem? They've got it all wrong. They don't really know what true beauty is at all, so how could they ever know how to attain it? "You are altogether beautiful, My love; there is no flaw in you." (Song of Solomon 4:7 ESV) These are words of God to you! They aren't just words spoken by two lovers to one another. They are words spoken by God to you as well. And He says you are already beautiful. "I will praise You for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are Your works, and that my soul knows very well." (Psalm 139:14 NKJV) He made you wonderfully! Nothing God creates is anything less than wonderful and beautiful. But what exactly is true beauty? "Do not let your adornment be merely outward--arranging the hair, wearing gold, or putting on fine apparel --rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:3-4 NKJV) And this is where we see the error of the world. For the world looks at what they can see and judges beauty based on what looks good to them. Yet even a red, juicy apple can look beautiful and desirable on the outside, but the inside might be brown and rotted. So, dear princess of the King, you must believe that you are already beautiful. Not because of what you look like on the outside, although that is surely beautiful too. But because your heart belongs to the King. Those lies that the world throws at you about what you must do to measure up and acheive beauty, are just that... lies. Let your beauty come from within. Let your beauty shine from a heart that is devoted to Jesus and loving Him deeper. There is truly nothing more beautiful in this world than the heart of a girl running hard after her Jesus. Next time you don't feel beautiful compared to the worlds standards and lies? Remember the One who says that you are altogether beautiful. And His opinion is the greatest one of all.

Thank you for this, Bella! I struggle with this sometimes, as most girls probably do. This was encouraging and it was so true, that a heart of a girl who loves the Lord is beautiful indeed! :D
